In Week 2 of "A Developing World", we examine the many roles that global institutions have on developing countries. Some are controversial, others are quite positive.

The first half of the evening is a presentation and discussion led by Mark Fried, Communications and Advocacy Coordinator at Oxfam Canada. Mark will look at the work of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, with a focus on Oxfam's efforts to make that work more effective. Oxfam Canada, along with sister organizations in 18 countries, is currently running an international campaign to Make Trade Fair.

We all become global traders in the second half of the evening. In a simulation exercise whose details will remain a surprise, we discover first hand how it feels to be various players in the world trade game. The discussion following this exercise is often followed by a lot of hand-hits-head "so THAT's what that meant!" realizations.

Take action: Write a letter to your MP!
