In Week 3 of "A Developing World", we ask why girls are given less opportunities to gain an education than boys are. What are the economic and cultural reasons for this imbalance? What are the consequences? And what can be done to improve the situation worldwide? Activities this evening will include a quiz to help you discover how much you know about education and development. You'll be discussing these issues with other participants in small groups, as well as sharing your group's quiz results with everyone else present. Our guest speaker tonight is Michelle Monroe of CARE Canada. Michelle has recently returned from five years of work in Asia and Africa, where she has helped set up many projects focused on educating girls. She will be sharing methods in which we can take part in such projects from right here in Canada, and encourages discussions. Education Links:
